Slightly different versions, or something.īut this is a disgraceful debacle. They're saying the USB Lion OS sticks don't work with the newer Macbook Air's.

And/or make a USB stick.Įven if you did have your own copy (if you purchased Lion in the App Store, you could make an Install DVD/USB), you still would not be able to get updates to the current OS X verions without an Internet Connection.

My recommendations are not to solely rely on the recovery thing, but to have a bootable clone of your system if you travel a lot, put an extra copy on a smaller portable hard drive. I've heard of downloads taking up to 18 hours.

That is not only superfluous, but could prove to be impossible if you are somewhere without an internet connection, have monthly bandwidth limits, and/or are on the road with only a dial-up connection available. Both are involved, take time, and use unnecessary bandwidth by downloading the entire OS again. I've also made my own copy of the installer as well as a bootable USB stick (have not had time to test that).įWIW, I've tested both the Recovery HD and the Recovery Disk Assistant the latter only works if you have the recovery partition present. In case of a disaster, I can be back in business in a very short time. Personally, I agree and that is why I have bootable clones (as I suggested above). There are lots of good reasons for having a copy of your OS in reserve.
